13 DELIGHTFUL GIFT IDEAS FOR THE GARDENING MOM
How We Connected:
When I first started freelancing, I was using Upwork, an online search engine that allowed business owners to connect with writers, graphic designers, consultants, and - you guessed it - virtual assistants. It was a great resource that helped me start my business.
One day, I received an invitation to apply for an assistant position for a gardening blog. At first glance, I loved the idea of blogging more consistently and having the opportunity to use Photoshop. Initially, I had my doubts because I hadn't worked in WordPress since my first college internship and I knew absolutely nothing about houseplants and succulents!
Nell appreciates technology and wanted a tech-savvy person on her team who could also help with proofreading, and give a perspective on blogging from a different generation's perspective.
Here is the work I've provided for Joy Us garden since January 2018.
Designing is so much fun for me! Every week, I create social media graphics and lead photos for each blog post. Then I create and upload YouTube thumbnails to the Joy Us garden channel. As you can see, my design skills are doing much better!
Part of promoting new blog posts over at Joy Us garden includes YouTube marketing. Keywords and meta-tags play a huge role in gaining video views, but the most essential component of a YouTube video is an attractive thumbnail.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
In this day and age, it's nearly impossible to offer copywriting services without significant knowledge of SEO. I've learned a lot along the way, and applied the strategies I learned to Joy Us garden. The Yoast Plugin and Keyword Finder were both extremely useful tools to help me grow the blog's web traffic.
In January 2018, the blog recorded 217,000 pageviews. By May, pageviews more than doubled to 492,000. With time, effort and strategy, I've helped Joy Us garden's pageviews increase over 125% in 5 months!
